Run for the Roses, Stay for the Party!
Ironstone Farm was very fortunate to have a number of great sponsors for its 2016 event, the first at the farm itself. To see the complete list click here.
Prizes will be awarded to the members of the largest team. There is also a prize for best hat (one man, one woman).
Individual prizes will be awarded to top three race finishers in each category: (women, men, female teens (13-17), male teens (13-17), boys 12 and under, girls 12 and under).
Runners complete the 5-kilometer race along Route 133 and Andover roads behind Ironstone Farm, with friends and family cheering at the start and finish line. Then everyone can stay for the party and live showing of the Kentucky Derby on screen.
Last year, the WROR Street Team was on hand to entertain at the event. The Ironstone Farm horse-and-rider drill team performed, and there were games and prizes for all ages. A similar experience is expected, with planning underway.
There are free tech shirts guaranteed for those who register by Friday, April 15; free T-shirts for kids who sign up for the stick-horse races, games and prizes for everyone, and the option for post-race food. Eat, play games, watch our horse-and-rider drill team perform, pick a favorite race horse and watch the Kentucky Derby live on a projected screen in our indoor arena after the race!
The race benefits the nonprofit work of Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm, which serves children with special needs, combat veterans, people diagnosed with cancer, adults with special needs, teens at risk, elders with memory issues and others.
STICK-HORSE RACE FOR KIDS
Designed for children 10 and younger
Children 10 and younger can do a shorter stick-horse race in our white riding ring.
Children are welcome to bring their own stick horse or make their own stick horse ahead of time, including at special Ironstone events. There will also be a small number of stick horses available to buy or borrow on race day.
After the stick-horse and 5K races, people can stay and enjoy the party. There will be games, face-painting for kids, as well as plenty of entertainment for adults, too. Our horse-and-rider drill team will perform.
