Lisa’s Story: August 2026 Rider of the Month

Sep 4, 2026

Lisa with her instructor, Jamie

This month we celebrate Lisa, a longtime rider here who has made immense physical and mental strides through her weekly therapeutic riding sessions. This adventure began after Lisa’s neurologist and orthopedist recommended therapeutic riding to benefit her coordination and physical strength. Fast forward 20 years, and Lisa is still here attending weekly sessions!

Having been familiar with Ironstone Farm and it being so close to home, it didn’t take much for Lisa’s family to get her excited about being on a horse. Lisa loves the activities that come with riding, like throwing the rings over cones and going on trail walks around the farm. Her ambition during sessions has led to breakthroughs that helped her during her time off the farm, like improved core strength and balance.

Along with her physical improvements, everyone around her notices Lisa lights up with a smile during every session. Riding has not only supported her joy and confidence, but it has given her the opportunity to find independence.  Riding immediately helped Lisa with sensory issues surrounding objects being placed on her head. Her mother, Luise, states she wouldn’t even wear hats in the winter, but in just one visit, she was able to tolerate the riding helmet because of how excited she was to ride.

“We truly appreciate the thoughtful instructor and kind volunteers who make her lessons so impactful,” says Luise.

Lisa continues to arrive at Ironstone with enthusiasm, and our staff and volunteers couldn’t be more proud! During recent lessons, Lisa has been enjoying time out on one of our new herd members, Hollywood. Lisa, thank you so much for being a part of the Ironstone Family! We are inspired by all that you have accomplished!
