We are thrilled to honor longtime Ironstone Farm family member, Matthew, as our rider of the month! In 2013, Matthew pursued Ironstone Farm after his doctor suggested therapeutic riding would relieve his anxiety and strengthen motor skills. 10+ years later, at 29 years old, Ironstone Farm is now a weekly staple in his routine. He originally entered the farm nervous and a bit unsure, but quickly felt at home under the saddle, now beginning each lesson confidently, greeting instructors and staff.
Over the years, Matthew built significant strength from holding himself up in the saddle. He achieved milestones of emotional resilience and reduced anxiety from the bonds created with our therapy ponies. As a seasoned rider, Matthew has built close relationships with nearly all of our (23) horses, never forgetting a name or a face. Matthew has reached significant milestones, including riding independently and steering and stopping the horse himself.
Matthew was chosen as Rider of the Month because he truly embodies the Ironstone spirit—he always shows up, gives his best effort, and tackles challenges with determination and a smile. He brightens up Monday nights by knowing everyone’s name and making each person feel welcome.
Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm has witnessed Matthew gain significant strength, excitement, and stress relief over the years, with staff absolutely adoring his presence and energy each week. Congratulations Matthew!!! Keep up the incredible work!
“Ironstone is a special place. Everyone there has always been great to Matthew, and of course, the horses. Special thank you to all the donors. They make this possible. I can’t thank them enough” -Bill (Matthew’s father)
