Meet Cath: May 2026 Volunteer of the Month

May 15, 2026

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Cath Howell!🎉 From the moment she arrives, Cath is ready to give her all! What makes Cath especially wonderful is the warmth and care she brings to every interaction. She takes the time to truly get to know everyone she works with and learn their unique needs, preferences, and personalities, humans and horses included! Cath is always asking thoughtful questions, eager to learn, and committed to becoming the best volunteer she can be. Her dedication and love for our mission know no bounds!

We are so beyond grateful for the energy, heart, and genuine investment in our mission Cath brings to Ironstone each week!

How did you discover Ironstone Farm?

I read an article in a local paper many years ago that described the program and the need for volunteers. I was still working at the time as a plumber in Boston and had difficulty being on time for my volunteer shifts so I was only here for less than a year.

Since I am now retired I was eager to return to Ironstone and am very glad to be able to volunteer again.

What is your fondest memory you have from volunteering?

I can’t mention clients by name but I work with one little girl who is so sweet and polite. She thanks us and her pony after every lesson and says, “God bless you” to her pony when he sneezes! Just does me in.

What does Ironstone Farm mean to you?

Challenge Unlimited is a lifeline of hope and a real path to a stronger and healthier future for the clients and their families. The joy on the faces of the clients is reflected in that of their parents when they see what their children are accomplishing. The staff are amazingly kind and committed and treat each client as the individuals they are.

And, yes, the ponies are all stars.

Thank you, Cath, for exemplifying our mission and values in all you do!
