GET TO KNOW KIM

What is your favorite part of your job?

The favorite part of my job is watching my clients smile, laugh, and get stronger and closer to meeting their developmental milestones. As well as hearing from their parents how well they are doing at home, and sharing all of those positive experiences with my dedicated weekly volunteers- who usually remember more about the kiddos than I do!!!

Who is your favorite horse?

My favorite horse is Desmond (pictured). I feel like we have been through a lot of sessions together over the past 10 or so years, and I feel like we are aging together, so I think I understand more of how he is feeling and what he is thinking, as he probably is understanding about me as well. SWEET, SWEET Desmond!

What is your fondest memory of Ironstone Farm?

I honestly think my fondest memory is when I had a conversation with a parent, whose child had multiple severe medical issues. Mom told me how grateful she was for the therapy because out of the 25-plus hours of therapy her child was receiving each week, hippotherapy was the only one that she didn’t cry through…

That said- I have had a lot of kiddos who DID cry through their sessions with me- and in those cases, my fondest memories are of when they finally overcame their fears and started to enjoy riding on the ponies!

What is an important lesson you have learned during your time at Ironstone?

I have learned many, many important lessons at Ironstone!! Most recently, I have been reminded of the importance of a positive work environment, portraying a positive attitude always, and going out of my way to make others feel thanked and appreciated (which may sometimes include a physical thank you in the form of cards!), even though I am not one to ever want or seek out to be thanked myself.

Thank you, Kim, for exemplifying our mission and values in all you do!
