Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Mary Anderson!🎉 In just eight months, Mary has become a pivotal part of our volunteer team. Time and time again, she’s stepped in to make sure lessons have the support they need to succeed. Her background as a school teacher shines in the way she breaks tasks into manageable steps, encourages our clients, and helps them get the most out of every lesson. We love that Mary is as eager to learn as she is to help! Especially during our hands-on horse sessions, where she continues to grow and challenge herself right alongside the riders she supports. We’re so grateful for the care, skill, and dedication she brings to Ironstone!

How did you discover Ironstone Farm?
I learned about Ironstone at a Volunteer Fair at the Chelmsford Senior Center in March of 2025, where I met Julia, the Volunteer Program Manager. When I told her that I had “recently retired”, she said those were her two favorite words!Â
What is your fondest memory you have from volunteering?
So far, my favorite memory is from one of my regular Tuesday clients. After being his side-walker many times over several months, he smiled at us while out on the trail one Tuesday last fall. It was the first time I’d seen him smile, and it made my whole week! Â
What does Ironstone Farm mean to you?
I love meeting and getting to know the clients and other volunteers. I’ve learned so much from observing and interacting with the incredible instructors and therapists. And, of course, being around the adorable ponies just can’t be beat!
Thank you, Mary, for exemplifying our mission and values in all you do!
