When we hired The Dow Company to install our Retreat Center’s new septic system, we knew to expect the high-quality work they are known for. What we didn’t expect was the incredible generosity that would come along with it.
Dow was scheduled to work on the project during their typical Monday-Friday work week. However, after learning more about our mission, the group chose to donate their weekend time to continue working on the project. Gary Milone, a sight utility superintendent, is one of the many weekend volunteers who wanted to give back in the best way he could.
“We heard the [Edward Nierman] story about the child with cerebral palsy,” said Milone, who credited this moment as the one that moved him. “So I just thought it would be a nice thing to do.”
Excavator Operator, Jason Kelsey, is another employee who donated his weekend to work on the center. “[Dow] is a charitable group, and they’re always looking for ways to help the community around them,” said Kelsey.
The Dow Company has been working with Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm during the final stages of our Retreat Center renovation. Their team has been integral in updating our septic system and plumbing, changing the house from its original one-bath capacity to an incredible six-bath standard, with three being wheelchair accessible. We are so grateful for their generosity and extra volunteer time on this home for healing.
The upgraded septic system is one of many large-scale projects to prepare the Retreat Center for a grand opening in September. The center will serve as a home-away-from-home for program participants and their families, providing a more immersive and powerful experience.
