This month, we celebrate Cori, an enthusiastic 21-year-old who brings immense joy to her lessons each week. Cori came to Ironstone Farm two years ago through a recommendation from a family friend. After searching for a quality equine-assisted program, her family found Ironstone to be the perfect fit. “We were so welcomed, and they worked with us to get Cori comfortable near the horses. The staff made the difference,” says her mother, Amy.
Cori was born with chromosome 18q deletion (Distal 18q deletion syndrome), leading to other health issues, seizures, and a compromised immune system. Although navigating these health challenges has meant many hospital stays over the years, Cori has not stopped bringing smiles to those around her with her joy, chattiness, and laughter.
“Ironstone Farm has become part of our family. We look forward to seeing everyone and miss them when we are not there!” – Amy (Cori’s mom)
Always willing to take on something new, Cori bravely took the plunge and began riding. After just three lessons, she was on horseback for the first time.
“I was worried that we would not be able to get her on the horse and now, I can’t imagine not seeing her on a horse!” exclaims her mother.
Riding her favorite horse, Jack, has given Cori so much confidence. Now able to steer independently and instruct Jack to walk and stop, she is discovering just how capable she really is. Once a quiet girl, Cori now talks non-stop and giggles throughout her entire lesson. She frequently boasts about her riding progress to all her friends and family. Everyone is celebrating her milestones along the way!
Once nervous about horses, Cori now can’t wait to get to her lesson to continue to reach her fullest potential! Cori’s mother has been thrilled with her daughter’s progress— “Please help give more kids the opportunity to feel the love and gain the confidence the horses and staff give to them,” Amy urges. “Ironstone Farm has become part of our family. We look forward to seeing everyone and miss them when we are not there!”
Our staff and volunteers are thrilled to be a part of Cori’s journey. Watching her light up while riding is one of the many reasons we are passionate about delivering these services. Cori, thank you so much for allowing us to experience your progress and joy. Riders like you are what makes being a part of the Ironstone family so special.
