How did you discover Ironstone Farm?
My best friend mentioned Ironstone Farm to me because she knew I wanted to get back into riding, but had issues with my hips. When I went to visit the facility, I was met by an extremely nice employee who walked me through this organization and set my mind at ease.
The next 2 years, I took recreational lessons, where I was blessed to have an excellent instructor, Michelle, and an amazing horse named Archer. Due to the diligence of the instructor and the amazing sensitivity of the horse, I thrived both in confidence and skill. I will always be forever grateful.
What is your fondest memory you have from volunteering?
There are many aspects of volunteering that I enjoy. First, the staff and instructors, especially Sharon and Heather, who I have the pleasure of working with, are amazing!
I am proud of the progress, no matter how big or small, that these children and adults accomplish every week. Helping out with Equine-Assisted Programs and having these individuals open up to me, and telling me how they appreciate me being a good listener. This made me feel like I am helping them grow in a positive way.
I’m touched by the sensitivity and observance of these clients. It has helped me grow in my own empathy and perspective of what it means to truly serve one’s community.
What does Ironstone Farm mean to you?
It is a place where you have individuals, young and old, who come together to work as a unit. The staff and the many volunteers are extremely hard-working and dedicated to both the clientele and the care of these amazing horses! These individuals never approach a tough situation and say, “We can’t accomplish a task.” Instead, we work together as a unit and say, “How will we get this job done?” It is my pleasure to be a part of Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm.
Thank you, Jeannette, for exemplifying our mission and values in all you do!
